Compassion~ Hate and revenge are self-defeating and destructive.
1. The priest should help the poor. He should not be interested in only trying to improve the condition of the church building.
2. The townspeople, including the doctor and his servant, should treat Kino and the villagers fairly.
3. The villagers lend things to Juan Thomas when he needed them.
Love~ Love must be unconditional.
1. Juana showing her deep love for her baby, insists on getting the doctor for Coyotito despite knowing that the doctor will never agree to teat people from the brush houses.
2. Kino is willing to do anything to improve the quality of his family’s life.
3. It takes Coyotito’s death to make Kino realize that the most important thing is family, not the money the pearl will bring.
4. Juana is a loyal wife who stands by her husband’s side until the end.
5. Juan Thomas help his brother, Kino, to escape after Kino kills a man. He borrows things for Kino to take on the journey.
Moderation~ Do not be greedy and yearn for thing that do not belong with others.
1. The doctor should treat Coyotito regardless of whether Kino has found the Pearl of the world.
2. The priest should not be interested in what the money from the sale of the pearl will contribute towards the church.
3. Kino should not think of all the things he can buy after selling off the pearl.
